Karatay Museum-Human Figures on Tiles

cross legged  sitting, lute playing, holding pomegranate, poppy or fish

Kubad Abad Palace was built in 1226-1236 on the southwest shores of Lake Beysehir.  It was built for the sultans and emirs and adorned with walls of tile mosaics.  Many of the tiles found are now displayed at the Karatay Madrasah in Konya, Turkey.  Star tiles were used with underglaze and lustre techniques.  Blue, turquoise, purple, dark blue, and black are used on a white background.
